Two Day Tour to Delphi

1st day: Starting from Athens Greece taxi, drives through the fertile plain of Beotia, crossing the town of Thebes connected with the tragedy of king Oedipus. Proceed to Levadia, a lively town, an important junction in the road network and an industrial centre, the textile mills treat the cotton grown in the Copais valley.

The upper town is graced by white houses with jutting wooden balconies dating from 18c. We'll  stop for a drink by the beautiful river Krya. Over the spot where the water springs out, lies the Municipal Cafe "XENIA". During the ancient times, Krya is said to be the location of the Oracle of Trofonios Zeus which included the springs of  Mnemosyne (Remembrance) and the spring of Lethe (oblivion). The oracle was used as a stage before visiting the oracle of Delphi and as such, through the times, it acquired great power and riches.

2nd day: Return to Athens from the east side of Mount Parnassus, through small mountain villages and the ancient town of Chaeroneia, (where  in 338 BC the battle took place between the southern Greek cities and King of Greek Macedonians Phillip, in which Alexander then 18 years of age, was making his debut in battle) short stop at the lion's monument, 24 feet high.

Greece taxi visits Orchomenos in Boeotia. Orchomenos was a very important Boeotian city and was particularly prosperous in Mycenaean times. It is referred to by Homer, Strabo and Pausanias as one of the strongest centers of the heroic past, with legendary wealth.

Greece taxi visits the impressive tholos tomb of Minyas, dated to about 1250 BC. The tholos tomb, which was excavated by H. Schliemann in 1880-81, rose above ground level. It had a long dromos which is no longer preserved, a deep doorway with a lintel weighing many tons, a circular burial chamber 14m. in diameter and a small side room, the ceiling of which is formed of stone slabs decorated with relief spirals, rosettes and papyrus flowers. The tomb was robbed in ancient times. Inside the tholos  a statue base and a base for an altar were found dating from the 3rd century BC.
