Athens Walking Tour - See
Athens from many Angles
Athens is a place of great cultural
interest, as well as a vivid and modern city. The harmonious and
perfectly balanced combination between the old and
the new age makes this city unique. Both sides
of Athens are extremely appealing to tourists.
There are many interesting museums
to visit and various cultural activities to attend that cater for all tastes. The best day for this tour is
Sunday, with less traffic
and there is a
parade with " Evzones" in front of the Parliament and a band
playing the National Anthem at 10:45 a.m.
This
tour gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a
fascinating city.
Our route
begins from the archaeological site of the Acropolis. We will
escort you to the entrance of the Herodion Theatre. (The ticket
price is 12 euro with which you can also visit the Theatre of
Donysos, the Roman and Ancient Agora, the Temple of Olympian
Zeus, Hadrians Gate and the Ancient Cemetery). If you wish you
may request a licensed guide for the tour inside the place (the Propylaia, Temple of Apterou Nikis, the
Parthenon etc.) This takes approx 1 hour.
We will meet
up again at the exit and go opposite to Areio Pago (the court).
We will climb up onto the rock where we will have the beautiful
panoramic view of Athens and all around the ancient site of the
Acropolis.
Continue for
the Old University-museum (the first further education
institution in Greece after the revolution of the Turkish
occupation). Proceed to
the Roman Agora (clock of Kirristou and the Wind Tower) and
the Turkish Mosque.
Visit the
Library of Hadrian and after the Flee Market in Monastiraki, then
the Ancient Agora. (Stoa Attalou,Temple of Hyphaistou Thisseou). Pass
by the Town Hall of Athens close to the meat and
fish markets where Athenians from all suburbs of Athens gather
to bargain for the best deals. This is the best way to see the
true Athenians and their way of life.
From Keramikos, the ancient cemetery, we will walk, or take
the metro back to Plaka. We will walk the picturesque, narrow
streets of the Plaka and then have lunch at a traditional Greek
restaurant.
After lunch
we will visit Hadrian's Gate and the ancient site of Olympian
Zeus. After a short bus ride we visit the Panathinaiko Stadium,
the University, the National Library, Omonia
Square, Stadiou , Syntagma and Parliament with the tomb of the
unknown soldier and the evzone guards.
Option of
visiting the Archaeological Museum or the New Acropolis Museum which takes 60 to 90 minutes.
All the
information & photos on this website is updated
