Athens and Corinth. Greece
Taxi Tour
Athens
is a place of great cultural interest, as well as a vivid
and modern city. The harmonious and perfectly balanced
combination between the old and the new age makes this city
unique. Both sides of Athens are extremely appealing to
tourists. There are many interesting
museums to visit and various cultural
activities to attend that cater for all tastes.
Greecetaxi tour gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a
fascinating city. You'll be taken to see the
centre of the city. On our way to the Acropolis
you will see the Old City (Plaka)
the Roman Agora, Hadrian's
Library, the Ancient Athenian
Agora,
Thesseon and
the
Pnyx "The hill of Democracy". You will also climb the
Acropolis to
see the famous theaters of Dionysus
and Herodes Atticus
and the architectural masterpieces of the Golden
Age of Athens: the
Propylaea,
the temple of Athena Nike, the
Erechteion
and
finally, "the harmony between material and
spirit", the monument that puts "order
in the mind", the Parthenon and have time
to visit its Museum.
Leaving Athens...Greecetaxi drives westwards along the scenic
coast, through the ancient areas of
Elefsis
and Megara (Battle
of Salamis 480 B. C). The Persians had overrun Athens and Attica and assembled
their fleet in the Bay of Phaleron while the Greek trieres had
withdrawn into the Bay of Elefsis. By a ruse
Themistocles induced the Persian fleet to launch an
attack off Perama to confine and destroy the Greek ships but it
was unable to maneuvre in the narrow channel and was dispersed
and mostly destroyed under the eyes of Xerxes, the "King of Kings" who
watched from a vantage point up on the cliffs.
Greecetaxi reaches the Corinth canal with its
breathtaking views (short stop / on the bridge, which is the highest
point of the canal). Shortly after we arrive at the Ancient town of
Corinth
. Back in ancient times Corinth was one of the
three major powers in Greece, and took part in
all the battles against the Persians.
Ancient
Corinth was one of the richest cities and this is quite evident by its
remains, including the huge Agora (market place) and
Apollo's Temple (6th c . B .C.) Time for lunch if desired in a
typical traditional Greek taverna.
